Important Information About The August 1 Special Election

published July 14th, 2017

The August 1 primary election is when we choose who will be on the November general election ballot. Here in the 45th Legislative District, we have a special election that will have a big impact on the future of our state.

Manka Dhingra is a smart, experienced progressive candidate running for the open state Senate seat previously held by the late Andy Hill. Dhingra is a King County Prosecutor focused on mental health courts. She also helped start API Chaya, a nonprofit focused on ending domestic violence in the South Asian community. Dhingra is passionate about fully funding and improving education in our state, addressing mental health issues, and reforming the criminal justice system.

Also running in this race is Jinyoung Lee Englund. She has spent her career working for Republicans from Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers to Mitt Romney and recently expressed her support for President Trump.

Your ballot will arrive in mid-July. Be sure to set time aside to vote and mail in your ballot before the important August 1 primary election.

Ballots must be postmarked by August 1st, or dropped in a ballot drop box by 8:00 PM on Election Day. You can find a list of ballot drop boxes at https://www.sos.wa.gov/elections/dropbox.aspx.
